That's a nice thought. But a lot of centrist dems seem to be fighting pretty hard against their own left flank. It'd be nice if they followed what the people want and aim their fire at the other side.

I dunno, I consider myself a Centrist Dem. I am not sure how much of Mamdani’s platform will actually work well. But damn, at least he is doing something!
I wonder if this is how GOP felt about Trump going into 2016. I’ll be a flown blown socialist by the end of all this.
I mean if you think his ideas are good and are just worried/doubtful about if he will be able to execute them, that appears to be a further left opinion than a lot of other democrats i've been seeing.
I agree. We need to begin with educating our own middle that nobody is proposing socialism. We're looking for social engineering systems that will solve societal problems to the utmost benefit of the whole... not the few or some. We have plenty of models in other counties, about how this works.
Actually, technically, it's not. You could call it democratic socialism, as some do, but it's still not socialism. There's a huge chasm between those ideologies.
Does your thing (that is completely different from Democratic Socialism) have a name? Democratic socialists argue that capitalism is inherently incompatible with the values of freedom, equality, and solidarity and that these ideals can only be achieved through the realisation of a socialist society.
Thanks. I should have included in my comment that because moderates are driven by pragmatism, they are much more likely to compromise (also known as "to fold") during negotiations if they can get *some* of what they want for their constituents (or themselves).
Centrist and Leftists, on the other hand, who are ideologically driven, are less likely to compromise, are often seen as inflexible, and are, of course, less likely to "fold". They also win less often, and are less successful in negotiations.
People say AOC is a Leftist but I think she's more of a pragmatist. She's got an inherent sense of reality. She operates from a position of what is actually achievable, even if what she sees as achievable is beyond what others can envision.
It seems like the definition s are changing these days....Sideman, Manchin seem defined as old school centrist. But the term reasonable or fold is the new standard definition? Gosh how all of this is changing so quickly.....
