I’ve found the quickest way to gauge if I want to bother talking to someone any further is, without fail, when “California” comes up and what their reaction is

Yeah the point of my post is it’s usually these stupid generic (almost always right wing news/online brained) phrases people spit out without any thought and it just tells me a lot about them. It’s never like, housing or water rights or whatever specific issues

Yep, there are something like 40 agricultural commodities for which California is the sole US source or produces 90% of the nation's crop, from almonds to processing tomatoes to olives to wine.

I sort of have that luxury in Washington where I am. I'm close to Seattle, but just far enough away to not be stuck in the city itself and can easily take advantage of its amenities.

Though, my area is no longer cheap.

We stay in CA because we believe it has our back. It's not perfect, but out of all the states I've been in, it's is actually trying to solve real problems.
