The worst aspect of the Trump/Musk gleeful firings based on unsubstantiated claims of waste and MAGA cultivated hostility to our government is not the obvious loss of talent nor the inevitable dysfunctions ahead. Instead, it is the attack on the very idea of the common good of the United States.
