The painter could define the respective grain size and thus the shade of blue and the covering capacity of the ground up artificial pigment himself.

It was also the first synthetic blue pigment! It was made from lime and copper. (This much I remember from the pigment lectures 15 years ago.)

That color instantly brings me back to stepping into the newly excavated Blue Room in Pompeii, one of only a handful of people who had done so since it was buried by Vesuvius. The Egyptian Blue walls were unmistakable, as were the cinnabar niches.

She will indeed - she's been in some TV news coverage and features in a clip from the programme that airs on Monday (not 24th: someone had listed the wrong date earlier).
It's the 4th episode of a BBC series on 'The new dig' that's been running since last April.
