As far as I know, American governments in the past (of either party) have almost never explicitly waded into their allies' domestic politics the way Vance did yesterday in Munich. Reagan never stumped for Kohl, and I don't recall Clinton campaigning for Schroeder either. But that was VERY direct.

If it weren't for the European people's memory and instincts, we'd have 90% right-wing leaders by now.
Hopefully what’s happening in USA will be a warning to most Germans. My dad grew up in the terrible time under the Nazis, like the parents and grandparents of many Germans alive today. #NeverForget
