Nobody is fully immune to the effects of poison ivy/poison oak/poison sumac. We all just have different tolerances to it; with repeated exposure, we will become allergic to it.

The oil responsible, urushiol, is very hydrophobic, so it takes a long time for the oil to break down.

I mean this as the highest compliment, but Opuntia/prickly pear cactus. It's the only cactus native to New England. It makes its own antifreeze to keep the leaf paddles from bursting. It has a beautiful flower and delicious fruit, but woe be to anyone who sticks an ungloved hand in a patch of it.

While I have many plants that are my "favorite," it is easily one of the ones I am always itching to info dump about. I know people are usually hit or miss on cacti (you either love them or hate them with little in between), but this is usually my 'gateway' cactus.

Birthday twin! I actually just teared up because you've got a lilac in your banner photo! And because you're my birthday twin, it means we share the same birth month flower - lily of the valley! There is a white variety and also a very dusty light pink variety (though less common).

Lilac is my favourite... Kinda gave that one away 😆 also because of the lilac bush in the backyard of my childhood home, too. Every spring I wander the neighbourhood trespassing on people's lawns to bury my face in their lilacs.

There's so many pretty varieties! The purples and pale pinks and whites and stripey ones, too. If I ever find a good scented product, I'll let you know.
