Marlene Dietrich lights it up in the 1931 preCode film DISHONORED, directed by Josef von Sternberg. I recently bought #DISHONORED on BluRay as part of Criterion’s DIETRICH & VON STERNBERG IN HOLLYWOOD box set—the only way it’s available, afaik—which I’ll write about later.
