With interprovincial trade barriers coming down, there will (likely) be free movement of healthcare workers within Canada. 🇺🇸MDs coming in one province will (likely) be able to practice in any province.

But immigration is still a federal issue. The provincial governing bodies for HC professionals can low their restrictions to allow for practice, but immigration is still Ottawa.

As a 🇨🇦 practicing MD, I agree. In the case of Ontario, the College is accepting fully accredited, practicing 🇺🇸MDs. The 🇺🇸system has checks in place to maintain standards. The 🇨🇦system is assuming that the 🇺🇸checks are maintaining standards. I believe the 🇺🇸 system does maintain standards we can trust.

Am I right that Ontario, Nova Scotia and PEI already do the same? My wife is an academic family doc in Texas, and we’ve registered her credentials with https://physiciansapply.ca. Leaving family behind would be tough, but as you know Trump is shredding our democracy.

I practice in the province of Ontario. It’s the CPSO that licenses physicians in Ontario (and they note they don’t use https://physiciansapply.ca site)

CPSO has made noises about streamlining registration, but haven’t seen action yet

Good to know. Thanks. We’ve lived in BC before, and vacationed multiple times in the Maritime provinces. Ontario is one place we’ve considered (if we feel we can’t stay any longer) as we have some family in Ohio and thus could potentially be a day’s drive away.

Spent lots of time on Galiano and always thought that where I’d end up one day. We ended up on an island whose name starts with G so I’m taking the W. Our NP is from the states. She and her partner moved up a couple years after we got here. Swears like a trucker, love her to bits.
