Now on TCM: HOMBRE (1967), a Western, directed by Martin Ritt from a script adapted from an Elmore Leonard novel, of which I perhaps unreasonably fond.

It stars Paul Newman, who think you’re an asshole and who absolutely does not stick his neck out for any assholes in this dog-eat-dog world but who will probably tske on seemingly unsurmountable odds to save your life if you or someone acting as your representative will whine at him about it.
The chief villain is played by Richard Boone. He and Newman share a famous scene—anchored by a famous line, “I got a question. How’re you gonna get down that hill?”…
..,that Elmore Leonard said was a direct product of his deep irritation with scenes in Westerns where the hero negotiated in good faith with cutthroats who wanted to cut out his liver with something sharp and rusty.
