There are people who have only ever played D&D and are so adamant about only ever wanting to play D&D that they won't even learn new ways to play D&D. What I mean by this is that as a paid GM I've seen people of all different levels of experience come into a game with different expectations for what that game will be about: there will always be combat, we hand-wave killing, the PCs ALWAYS win, you have to write 30 pages of backstory, etc.

When this type of player encounters a table that plays the game differently from the way they know it (e.g. a table that is RP heavy, a table where we need to think about lethal vs nonlethal damage, a table where some encounters are not fair), they either shut down or force their will onto the table

One example - In the past, I've given customers a literal template for how I'd like backstory. Two pages, which highlight the types of things that make a backstory usable for a GM. I had a player ignore that template completely and send me a 10-page backstory instead.

The funny thing is, as someone who mostly writes adventure content for d&d5e (because the market is there! SPONSORED: you can hire me to write content for YOUR game), I don't think those people are my audience either. Obviously as a freelancer I want to write what the client wants, but...

when I run a game of Dungeons & Dragons, I'm more interested in stretching out the far corners of the system and seeing what they can do. And I usually put that up front. My magic school campaign came with a warning: when I run d&d I get real Weird with it. Player beware, I guess?

All this to say - If you're a GM or designer, don't sweat it when people like this don't want to engage. Nobody's for everybody.
