touch something metal first eg a radiator, have a little dish or something for any screws to go

A bit of sticky tape to hold your screws is also a handy thing.
Means you can keep them in teh order you removed them, so replaces them in reverse order. Or just keep all the tiny ones *here* and all the very slightly different ones *here*.

Yeah, multiple pictures of everything when disassembling. It's faster to erase 35 pictures than to figure out where that mini-screw went, or how those flat cables were attached. And make sure the images are sharp before moving on (self-burn - late night Nintendo DS repair).

verify the fan wasn't disabled in BIOS, turn off PC and PSU, static discharge, check fan header for issues, dust system since you're in there, change the CMOS battery if you haven't in years, verify direction of fans (might be an arrow), i prefer positive pressure (push air in, helps dust control)

That I’ve done. In the BIOS it says it’s on. It started making noise awhile back and stopped working after awhile.

Take photos of the existing fan and cable, including the connector, so you've got a reference if you need it. It's straightforward enough, but it's a good habit to get into 👍

While you're in there and replacing fans, double check that the airflow in your case makes sense before you close it. People have varying opinions, but generally I like to have front-to-back flow. If you have a top fan, make sure it points up with the heat!
