There is no reason to assume they will improve their energy consumption, bc there is no financial imperative, or regulatory demand - car manufacturers use fleet fuel economy technology to build bigger and bigger cars, not make models that already exist run more efficiently.

The folks pumping on iteration engines are not the people producing the power - they arent the people building the server farms. There is no central development. There is no regulation. Server farms are being built to meet future expected demands - same with the coal plants that power them.

And the iteration start ups will simply use every drop of power that is available while it is affordable, and declare bankruptcy when it is not, bc that's what tech, and American business in general, does.

It’s also been an engine for significant growth and productivity (and significant downsides). I think AI (or LLMs to be precise) are powerful general purpose technologies which already have boring and beneficial uses. I understand your point of view but have a different opinion 🤷🏾‍♂️.

It really hasnt. The energy cost to productivity of the iterative industry is indefensible.
