That's sad to hear. It shouldn't matter if they decided not to use your work. You provided them with a product whether they use it or not. I just has a discussion earlier today about contracts. I even have a separate contract when I push from staging to production. It's called "CYA".
My parents were contractors. Every delivery—cabinets, appliances, countertops, tile and flooring—required a chunk of the total, and the driver knew never to leave the material without the $$$$.
I hate this so much. Contracts and credit cards, and 50 percent down. I don’t do much client work, but when I do, the last line of the pricing page (when I’m behaving) says that approval is a credit-card number for half of the total.
