Oh god, just put this over a photo I took in October 2024 (reduced the opacity so you can see both the old level and current level), the ice level has fallen dramatically :(
Yeah, that doesn't surprise me. I've visited the caves only twice (2013 and 2020) and the guide also mentioned the whole thing had shifted back considerably. The clients have to walk further now...
I've noticed it very clearly at Svínafellsjökull but as Breiðamerkurjökull's face is so much further away I hadn't realised it was quite as bad. But when I saw this old photo I thought the ice looked higher, checked and was surprised at how different it was :(
