Even taking out the magical mysterious stuff on the album, the standard fare is gorgeous. Some of their most beautiful stuff: Fool on the Hill, Your Mother Should Know, Hello Goodbye, Strawberry Fields Forever, Penny Lane… essential to the catalog.

I think the lack of respect is largely a result of the LP being a Capitol Records (i.e. American) construct that was not sold in the UK until 1976.

I’ve always thought that all the Magical Mystery Tour tracks including Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields should be a part of Sgt. Pepper. (+ those two were originally part of Pepper). Especially following the Giles remixes. There’s an incredibly trippy 20-track album that sounds incredible together.
