In Liverpool, a major UK city. We are somehow still waiting for tap and go contactless technology on our rail network, leading to daily scenes like this.

Given that you can tap and go on all Liverpool buses, the fact that you still can’t for the train just seems bonkers. Plus the whole need for a printed ticket. I do an annual railpass, so it’s not like the tech isn’t there.
At least at many merseyrail stations there IS still someone there to sell tickets, give travel advice, and keep an eye out for passengers who need help and support.
(Both would be nice, but if I had to choose I'd take the queue!)
There is nothing more quintessentially British than standing in a queue. When queueing stops, societal breakdown will inevitably follow. Tap and go should be gone!
As should self-checkout.
Just spent a few days in the Capitol and the flow of thousands of passengers each hour is only possible with tap technology. Why can't Merseyrail do it now?

Perfect for hybrid working.
