Seems like something similar happened once, in 1954-55 when a cool La Nina gave a higher jan temperature than the previous La Nino januar temp? No others. Prob not a record back then though

Back to 2024-25, Jan-2024 saw record high global SST, but Jan-2025 SST was significantly lower (0.1-0.15C), but still global Jan 2025 SAT was higher than Jan 2024 SAT. Doesn't this mean that SAT over land in Jan 2025 must have "exceptionally record" high?

Might it be that sea surface temperatures might be slightly lower if the heat content has been spreading deeper?

It would be interesting to see the January 2023-24-25 temperatures for the deeper parts of the ocean.

Or rather to rephrase: the upper 2 meters has more short term atmospheric impacts that do not affect the temperatures of the deeper parts as much - and hence their variability is lower and might be better to observe medium/long term trends.
