True. Always been that way but they do the best they can. Logistics in this case are overwhelming. He would still be president in jail. How would that work? Merchan sentenced him, more than most have done in the 4 years they had. He is my hero!
I thought judges bragged about using sentencing to serve as a deterrent to other potential criminals?
Nothing EVER really mattered in America. That's a speech intended for the poor and middle class.
"The law, in its majestic equality, forbids rich and poor alike to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal their bread." - Anatole France
American Exceptionalism boils down to Americans being exceptionally blind to the realities of their own existence and how they mirror same as it ever was.
Many examples, but TikTok would be one example - China is being accused of things the US government is very guilty of doing, as proven by Snowden and the Murthy v. Missouri case.
The most soul-crushing, depressing, anger-provoking thing that has happened to me over the last decade or so is realizing that every aspect of American life and it’s institutions have been corrupted and are almost beyond repair. Irretrievably broken.
Also, please never forget that Mitch McConnell and Senate colleagues at the time had two chances to stop the madness, hold Trump to account, and spare us this crap.
It is hard to convince people of democracy and the rule of law after seeing the travesty of how judes and justices conspired to shield Trump from accountability. And the Justice Dept. couldn't come up with the muscle to make it happen.
The US now obviously has a different tier of justice for the rich and powerful... We the People are not "all equal" - proven today with the unpunished conviction of Don the Criminal Con (which now means "con-man" and "convict").
There are many inequalities in this country. Justice under the law is clearly one of them. Opportunity is another, as well as access to health care, education, and voting, just to name a few. We have strayed so far from the IDEA this country was founded on, I wonder if we can ever go back.
It’s not really applied to the rich and powerful at all. If I were an ordinary American I’d treat the law as purely a matter of conscience, given the absence of justice.

very concerned about the three dissents by SCOTUS , but not surprised. This administration+ those 3 justices are very worrisome going forward.
Same as it ever was.
We, the people, were denied justice!!
imagine if it was a Democrat
