Putin was a communist KGB agent who said the breakup of the Soviet Union was catastrophe. I’d argue he’d actually trying to reconstitute the Soviet Union, but slightly modified, with him replacing the party as the center of the state.

Communism is authoritarian & oligarchical. Putin was a communist. As for the religion aspect, I don’t think anyone takes it too seriously as it’s a perverted version of Christianity. I understand the differences, but authoritarianism is authoritarianism. The flavor doesn’t make it better.

This is true, but when we talk about authoritarian ism’s they are largely all the same: they create a new elite class that’s exploitative AF. Putin was a communist KGB agent, a part of the former Russian elite. He learned and copied the same exploitative techniques for his own rule.
