I hope this bill passes and begins a legislative journey beyond the bill's current boundaries. Death, unfortunately, is too often a distressing time despite palliative care involvement. I think I have a right to choose the time of my passing if I have a terminal illness.

Great interview. KL was passionate and compassionate…but she did not persuade, esp on coercion/burden. Rather than a few hours’ post-luncheon debate in HoC on a Friday, this is a perfect opportunity for Starmer to establish the principle of Citizens’ Assembly and get this issue trashed out properly.

I so hope this bill succeeds - I watched my father die of lung cancer, basically suffocated to death. - he may not have taken the choice to end his life earlier, but he wasn’t given that option. The option available was a slow and painful death - and that’s what he had 😢

My mother died of terminal cancer too. My thoughts are with you. She died in the most amazing hospice .. but their excellent palliative care isn't enough to convince me ppl shouldn't have a choice.

My husband and I have long term care insurance for this reason. We have shepherded a son and a mother to their death in the past four years. We never want to be a burden to our children or for them to even be faced with the choices. Fully in support of long term care insurance and euthanasia.

Couldn’t agree more. I sincerely hope this bill get every bit of the considered attention it deserves. And whatever the outcome, really hope Kim knows she has done us proud, for everyone in support of end of life assisted dying and is able to move on. Lewis also - and once again - fantastic.

Awesome interview. Full of admiration for Kim Leadbeater. @lewisgoodall.com was incredible, inviting Kim’s voice on the horrific loss of her sister, while allowing space for Kim to bravely represent the very many of us left scarred by witnessing end of life and scared for our own deaths. Amazing!

Really appreciated the way this was handled. I've experienced a close family member succumb to cancer. I definitely think people should be given the right to manage their death on their own terms if that's what they want.

Bit disappointed how palliative care was brushed over.
Funding research and training in that would be money much better spent than training doctors in taking people's lives.

My own experience witnessing somebody receiving palliative care was pain management while we waited for them to die.
She did say it didn't have to be one or the other.
In our case, I dont think assisted dying would have been desired, but I wouldn't deprive others of it. Cancer isn't a pleasant death
