Latinx is indeed very dumb. The word Latin in English is gender neutral in itself, it doesn't need a suffix, and for Spanish speakers "Latinx" is unpronounceable.

The reason is because Spanish is a gendered language, there is no gender neutral word for Latin people. So Latinx was invented to encompass all genders and non-binary people, but it's clunky and problematic. Latine is a better word but not so popular.

This is factually incorrect FYI. The term Latinx was coined by Latin people, not white people, although it is true that is was coined by Latin people in America. The third gender term coined in South America was actually Latine.
