If she needs help with that research, I have experience working with CRISPR/Cas9 transgenics in the lab and know the system quite well, as well as other scientists who used it.

CC @gontcharenko.bsky.social , a fellow Power BI reportee who conducted actual mutagenesis with it in the past.

Ah no way that's so cool and really appreciated. Let me see what she says. This is actually for Welsh Baccalaureate which is an extra course they do to demonstrate skills in research, data collection, evaluating approaches, analysing and presenting data, so naturally Dad can help with...

...that side of it, not so much with the actual topic she's picked ha. She's super quiet and I did encourage her to approach some of the heads at the uni's she's applied for but she didn't feel confident enough to do that so I think this might sit with her better! I'll get back to you 👍

It's impressive that she picked a topic as relevant and important as CRISPR/Cas9, and took an ethics angle to it, too. Your advice to speak to uni folks is very good -- she can even email top experts and they might answer if she asks specific questions or just for 15 min to hear them soapbox.

It's normal to be timid about that, though. She can also always get input from me or my former colleagues about what it's like to do a career in science (i.e. labwork, doctoral research) and any high-level advice or heads up for challenges if she heads in that direction. LMK! :)

Alright, replied! In my masters/PhD I think I've made either the second or the third transgenic animal (a fruitfly) in Belgium using CRISPR. If she has any questions, I'll happily answer them if I can! Hwyl i ti!
