Sitting at the Langdale & Elterwater road junction folklore holds the Neddy Bogle used to scare horse drawn carriages as their lights hit the white stone at night.
Other speak of it being named after a ghostly horse.
Whichever is right, it’s a wonderful landmark to the valley.
