Yep. I think the publishers are now opening up reviewer lists across their journals, so the volume has increased exponentially & the subject relevance of requests has dropped dramatically.

That’s very sneaky if true. Feeling like there should be a big peer review database that everyone can access to solve these issues. Tracking who has completed reviews and when?

I've had to set limits for myself and mark myself as away when travelling or big deadlines coming up. I also prioritize those I am on the board for, want to be on the board for or have high impact factors. Unless something is super interesting/in my area, I say no a lot!

I have started saying no much more. Asking myself if the content is something I have particular expertise in and would contribute a unique perspective. And yet here we are still 🫣

It didn’t used to be as a student but I’ve heard that editors are reaching out to trainees because there is such a (seeming) dearth of reviewers. It’s good practice for your writing, too, but quickly becomes a big time suck
