i want to survey what consumer software uses LP how and where. so the idea would be to add appropriate logging to all LP libraries and then compile the OS, to get accurate reports of every time an LP is solved

May I suggest something? These libraries are loaded dynamically, right? Then why not add logging hooks into them? Then you don't have to recompile anything else.

I don't know what that means but it sounds good. Is it guaranteed that the libraries are always dynamically loaded, or would this approach risk overlooking anything?

Normally, on a regular Linux distribution, there are only a few tools that are linked statically (some shells etc.), and I've never heard that they had LP prerequisites.

In fact what I'd suggest first is to scan all binaries for the names of the dynamic libraries they use and look for LP libraries.
