While the judge upheld criminal contempt convictions against three Indigenous land defenders, he said he’ll take the RCMP violations into account during sentencing.

Defence evidence included audio recordings of police making racist comments about two Indigenous women.

RCMP C-IRG, recently re-named CRU-BC, faces widespread allegations of misconduct and a systemic review by the CCRC.

Formed in 2017 in response to pipeline opposition, specifically TMX, it was involved in CGL conflict and Fairy Creek. Last year, its mandate was expanded.
