Is it possible to frame this as a citizen scientist project? I think one way to deal with the anti-science trumpers is for everyone to be involved with science in a way that's useful to the researchers. For amateur astronomers, aavso is a great place to contribute.

A big idea that I am really excited about is that we should think about biodiversity monitoring (as the #CBD does) is a powerful tool for biosurveillance. By doing a better job at understanding where reservoirs are, we can leverage decades of biodiversity data for health.

But it's not just a data issue - although we can identify shared core drivers, the way they are expressed will vary on a disease-by-disease basis. If we don't look at each situation as a specific one, we will not target the right drivers! Interventions need to be customized.

The upside is that there is a lot of exciting causal modelling to be done. Figuring out how these drivers interact is still an open question, and one that will require massive amounts of exciting fundamental research.

This paper is the outcome of a year of hard work from @viralemergence.org - and beyond a literature review, we have tried to give our field(s) a roadmap for useful research and advocacy. Do we need #OneHealth? Yes (but where it matters). Conservation policy for health? Yes (but evidence driven).

The last few years have been hard as a biodiversity scientist, seeing my field vault over the epistemic barriers between biodiversity and health, often in counter-productive ways. So we worked hard to come up with a roadmap, and we hope it provides good ideas for effective cross-field collaboration.
