The files containing these references are sounds/containers/random_selector.vsnd_c and sounds/containers/random_switch.vsnd_c, both located in core/pak01_dir.vpk.

These two vsnd files are tests for the new(ish) soundsystem in Source 2 that operates more like FMOD or WWise.

The sounds seem to specifically be the hl1/hl2 lines for the numbers 1-10, moved to a new folder (that is not in core, so is in a specific game's files). The folder being called "legacy" would imply they were planning to or were in the process of replacing the HEV suit voice lines in April 2024.

What probably happened was these test files were made with a specific game's tools (hlx) and sounds from that game were used in them, but since this core folder is shared between all actively developed Source 2 games they then ended up in every other game without the sounds.

This is similar to the hair rendering, where material files have shipped in the core folder but the corresponding shader files are not in any game.

It'll be interesting to see what changes whenever any of the source 2 games actually sync their code and assets with current source 2 because it's been 3 months now.

Though basically nothing was happening even back in November last year when Deadlock was regularly updated and largely stayed in sync with the main codebase
