per TX DPS / DSHS, nothing has changed at this time. I would expect if you renew your license, however, that it might come back to you with your birth sex, from what i've heard from talking to other people. I cannot confirm that, just anecdotal right now.

a few notes: if you are living in Texas, as far as I know you can still obtain court orders. THey will not be honored at DMV / DSHS and you may end up on a list if you attempt to use yours to modify any documents now.

as far as i am aware and per pulbic reports, the state does not have any data on people who changed their gender markers pre-2022. how they will attempt to change your drivers license is unclear to me.

one last note: as others have said, your driver's license / birth cert is NOT INVALID because of the AG's opinion. By itself, his legal opinion means nothing. Agencies may choose to adopt or ignore it at their discretion.

I expect they have scans of all paperwork submitted with a gender change. It’s just that in 2022 they didn’t have the data tagged to separate trans people from other corrections without manually reviewing them.

I agree with you that it’s likeliest that IDs will be reverted on renewal like passports have been.

But I haven’t ruled out more vindictive approaches like them pushing DPS to do the manual review or making efforts to void existing IDs

I've fucked around too long, and my dead name is still on my home's mortgage. I'm afraid to try to change it bc my name change decree is the same as my gender change decree, and IDK if this will get me flagged somehow. They got me so paranoid. Just renewed my license in Jan, tho, thank god.

Something Trans Legal Aid Clinic of Texas is recommending is that people get their name and gender court orders separated so that even if you can no longer use the gender one the name one is still valid. Not sure how it works but I'd reach out to them.
