I wish these individuals would be identified. They maybe old now, but I want public shaming. There are other images from the 60’s that I also want the creeps and racists to be outed.
After just four days, her parents withdrew her from the school. She later moved to Philadelphia and earned her diploma there. Fifty years later, the school renamed its library in her honor, and one of the students in the original photo offered her a public apology.
As a white female
baby boomer, I am ashamed of so many actions of whites. I am even more horrified now that many Americans elected someone who encourages those same actions in 2024. What else could we expect from a felon? 😔😡
My grandmother and I watched a documentary on that when I was like 5. I was so mad at the end that I was screaming at the TV and begging how anyone could ever be excluded by skin color. Come to find out, my grandma held the hand of a younger girl through a protest that was smaller. She raised me.
Well, most of my family were Yankees in the civil war so that certainly helped her stance. But I agree. She was very pro equal rights, body positive, lgbtqia friendly, and she wasn't scared to get mad about any of it. Very ahead of her time. So was my grandpa.
The wisdom courage and resilience of Black women is a national treasure. They have led the way and done the work to fight for the programs that advanced women, human rights and worker rights, and none of the good things could’ve happened without them. God, my hopes were w/ Kamala.
MAGA and Republicans would have you believe that it's too traumatizing for white kids to learn about slavery and the civill rights fight. Dorothy Counts was truly a heroine.
You need to revise this. The Charlston school district in Charlston Arkansas quietly integrated on July 24, 1954 of course the rest of the country only remember September 1957 when troops integrated Central High Little Rock Arkansas, so she wasn't the first black girl to attend an all white school.
The black schools were closed, all 12 grades were integrated. The local school board persuaded the press to keep it quiet. Other school districts refused to play football or perform band competitions because of black players, but the school board didn't back down. The schools stayed integrated.
I misspelled it's Charleston Arkansas. Around 1958, two board members' seats became vacant, and segregationist ran for the position and were soundly defeated. One that won was Dale Bumpers, who became our Dem. Gov. 1972 The U.S. Senator 1976, this was back before MAGA.

She had perseverance and self-control I did not possess.
The rest went on to vote three times for Donald Trump.
