They are all but dead right now. The care in rural areas even 50 miles outside a major city pales in comparison to inside that major city. There wouldn't be the need to go into those cities if the preventative care was better.

Medicaid funding has a complexed formula for funding states. On average funding is 69%feds and 31% state. The real trick, think about how this benefits private VS non profit medical providers is how Medicaid under pays the generalist physicians.

Nor do I have a problem not paying for childbirth in red states that outlawed or restricted abortion. As for elderly people, many states have filial responsibility laws. Let their kids pay for the parents’ nursing home. Once that starts happening, MAGATS will change their mind real quick.
