A coalition of prevention activists have pressed state legislators to erect a permanent suicide barrier on the bridge, which connects the University of Minnesota’s East and West Banks over the Mississippi River.

There is plenty of evidence that method is coupled with rate. This is evident with the success of the Golden Gate Bridge net, and the suicide decline in Europe after coal stoves became obsolete.
Physical barriers to prevent suicide, may be something should be done much sooner. Additionally it is not feasible to have a barrier on everything, but maybe mental health care can help who knows it probably would be less expensive and more effective.
I’m all for saving lives but maybe instead of the bandaid of cutting off opportunity for self-harm we take a harder stance against motivators for self-harm? IDK, like stopping the oligarchy from bleeding us dry and cutting every social safety net our society has built over the last century.
