For some reason, I had thought it was a mythical beast - similar to tilting at windmills, and NOT as a mechanism to distinguishing between an in-group and an out-group.
Which is QUITE the difference.

Oh, and the context of this was that a coworker of mine was redirected to a server named shibboleth and was wondering what a shibboleth was :).
