Heads up!!! After February 25, you will no longer be able to download kindle books that you purchased. So make sure you take the time to download and save your library this weekend. And also, divest from Bezos and Amazon!!!

Never got into AmazonKindle for some reason - maybe because I saw B&N/Nook as good enough.
Glad to know, nonetheless.
BTW, my Nook has been collecting dust for the last 10yrs or so 😂
Nothing like buying/reading from an actual book 🥰📚📖❣️
(Throwing a plug out there for Barnes&Noble and Strand NYC 😁)
For a start, why don't they ensure that they will never remove a customer's ebook from their library, and also make it mandatory for customers to approve any updates to a purchased ebook?
They're in a multi-year arms race against DRM removal and that was the biggest loophole left for getting books out of them in the old format that's cracked-cracked.
Add in the new administration being the new administration and the history of books being removed (pirate edition of 1984) and PANIC.
It's an absolute perfect storm and the servers are probably being completely slammed right now by people who were 100% fine being locked into the service by DRM right up until the loophole closure was announced after everyone was wondering for 3 weeks if books were going to start disappearing again.

I also think parents should FORCE, if necessary, their kids to handover their cell phones and go to the library and read for an hour each day, 5 days a week. Parents would be richly rewarded by the fine adults their children would turn out to be.

Is there a workaround for not owning a Kindle? When I try to download "to transfer via USB" I get the message that I do not have a device capable of USB transfer. Anybody else?
Some of them can't do it at all. I have two older kindles and I cant backup anything. It will let me move the files but they do not open. Really makes me angry. I have an entire library of my grandmothers books that she read before she died. When that kindle goes so does her library.
I hate that. I'm so sorry. I took a shot in the dark and posted on my local Buy Nothing page to see if anyone has an old Kindle to give away. Maybe try that - if you include that you want to save your grandmother's books, it might inspire assistance?
Look up Calibre and Kindle DeDRM. Calibre is software for managing ebook libraries. DeDRM can remove the Amazon locks and the books can be opened by any compatible device.
I've previously bought hundreds of ebooks from Amazon. Stripped the DRM off and now my Kobo can use them.

Because if they did that they couldn't squeeze us for every possible dime 😅 But I agree that they should! If someone BUYS an eBook, they own it! Forever!
I know, right. How about old fashioned business tactics?
For example, if it is discovered Amazon ever removed a digital book from your library or made changes to a file without your consent, they will reimburse you for all the Kindle ebooks you ever purchased.
Unfortunately old business tactics went out the window when deregulated capitalism came in the front door! (My opinion only!) We could ask the CFPB to step in but... Oh, wait. 😬
And buy a book, a hard copy, from an independent bookstore and/ or https://bookshop.org. When they ban all the books we can recreate all those lost stories by working together. And https://bookshop.org now has ebooks!
For example, if it is discovered Amazon ever removed a digital book from your library or made changes to a file without your consent, they will reimburse you for all the Kindle ebooks you ever purchased.
I was angry over some charge from amazon and I deleted my account a year ago; it made me accept the consequences about 10 times; saying that everything would be deleted.
I said good riddance. And then immediately I tried to open my kindle app for some reading…
To clarify you’ll still be able to download books directly to your Kindle device or the Kindle app. What is being removed is the ability to download a Kindle book file to your computer so that you can manually copy it over via USB.
Order as much as you possibly can from Amazon and return everything and then continue to do this for the next 4 years or however long it takes. Bezos is one big fat steak in the rest of us are pretty hungry. My fork is sharpened how about you?
How do we remove their warehouses from our communities? Or slow down their logistics so the majority of people who still want to use them get frustrated when it takes 7 months for their products to get to them.
Collectively agreeing to just not buy from them at all, for starters. Trust me, if they have the means to ensure on time deliveries at Christmas time, they can handle a few guys trying to bog down the works with small purchases.
Plus, they'll happily refund anyone whose delivery is 2-4 weeks past the expected date, and let them keep the item if it still arrives after the refund. They already planned that as an expense, and that have more than enough money to cover it.
Please don’t do that. I know many authors robbed by thieves returning books after reading them. Some authors end up with a negative balance because of this thievery.
Go analogue and buy books from a small store. The owner of the store will never sneakily stop you owning your book. Buy books and music and stop renting it from the greedy middlemen. They truly despise you for being gullible.
I buy digital books becaaue as a writer and a student its much easier to find the sections i want to reference via tje search function. And I often buy them in addtion to buying physical copies. https://bsky.app/profile/kiaspeaks.us/post/3lipi6u6srk2k

No matter what they do or do not do, you will be 'required' to accept a license agreement that unilaterally allows them to change the terms of service in pretty much any way they want. Financial punishment is the only language they understand. I buy books on paper and use libraries as needed.
We don't use Amazon any more frequently than we have to, but we can't completely stop using them. I can't drive 1½ hours to the city every time I need a bottle of shampoo. Between allergies, sensitivities, and special dietary needs, we need things we can't buy at a brick and mortar store.
We go to Walmart once a month or so for things they don't sell at our local Food Lion. It really doesn't matter where we shop here -- it's ALL owned by Republicans. I wish we could have found affordable housing in a blue state, but here we are.
I just checked today and there are a number of other excellent online portals where you can buy a huge range of books and videos in both hard and e-copy. Boycott Amazon and the book portals it has taken over e.g. Book Despitory and Abe Books
Awesome thanks for the reminder. Going to download right now while dinner is cooking ? Thanks for the follow and I saw you have a healthy alter ego 💙✌️🧘and I happily followed also. Have a wonderful weekend !
One good thing about not trusting billionaires I don't use Amazon I don't shop at Walmart or target. I have never supported the drug addicted anti American South African cum bag Musk. Shop locally owned pro American shops . Don't shop at 🍊 🤡 supporters big or small!!!

Smh wowwww so basically if you don’t have a kindle you’re SOL? That’s so fucking ridiculous. Thank you for the heads up and clarification, I had no idea about this!!
You'll still have access to your books on a Kindle, but will no longer be able to download them to a computer. To do it you'll need to go to 'Other Actions' and choose to do a USB download. I haven't found any way to do it except one at a time so don't wait until the last minute!

I’ve so far raised 75£ from gofundme, saved 500 from selling old useless things I’ve owned and learned about 17 different ways of scamming people. I should start reviewing their scamming skills and start giving feedback. 😂
Can you imagine. These scammers have audacity to message you first saying they sent money to PayPal account. Then ask you to send couple quid they’re way to see if it works because you don’t get anything 😅
Please check on this carefully. This is for books you may download to a computer and transfer via USB to a Kindle device. If you download to a Kindle directly, via wifi or cellular, you should not have an issue.
Thanks for clearing this up for me. I am an avid user of my local library but also love convenience of Kindle downloads. Easier to fall asleep holding it than a heavy book!!

Just wait till they start editing them for content. On your connected device. Read your agreements, you probably don't "own" the content anymore. Hardcopy, off the devices - yours forever.
Also, go forth and sin no more. Never buy anything from Bezos/Amazon if you can possibly help it! Local bookstores, online stores in the UK and elsewhere (just got a rip-snorting read from Kenney's in Ireland for $3.50 CDN shipping!)
Thanks I only have one that I care about and it is downloaded. I am working getting away from Amazon and going to go with Kobo the next time I need more Ebooks.
I read/download books through the Libby library app. I have purchased a very small percentage of books through Amazon which appear in the digital content section. Will those books still be saved in that section?

I downloaded from the Amazon website and transferred them to a hard drive. Orders > digital orders > more actions > download and transfer. And you have to do each book individually.

ToS for media platforms explains u don’t own it (the way u think u do.)
Ex: U buy a movie on Itunes, don’t download it (u stream it), then 3 yrs later the studio removes it from sale. If u didn’t download it, u now have no way of obtaining it bc it’s not available to iTunes for u 2 download.
Not saying it’s by any means right. Only that most platforms work this way. Ownership laws work differently w/ electronic media.
Download & back up any & all media on any platform if u don’t wanna risk losing. Especially if u move to a diff. country bc it may not be avail there 2 download.

I was just saying how kind it is of Bezos to give people the freedom to shop elsewhere and look at the far superior ereaders out there. Maybe this will be the move to finally shift the e-pub industry away from this terrible company!
And this is yet another reason why I buy hard copy books.
And now I try to avoid enriching prick oligarchs whenever possible which means I buy in brick and mortar shops or from someone other than amazon (whenever possible).

Anyone know the best way to save your Kindle books to read later on a different device? I clicked the download option for each book on my Kindle and in the Kindle app on my computer; does that mean they're "downloaded" and protected?
I downloaded from the Amazon website and transferred them to a hard drive. Orders > digital orders > more actions > download and transfer. And you have to do each book individually.
I dumped All Amazon from books to audiobooks. I refuse to order anything from Amazon. The show is on prime suck anyways. I use my library to download ebooks and audiobooks. It's free! Why pay greedy Broligarchs?
Same. I’m an avid KU reader. A lot of the stuff I read on there I have yet to find elsewhere. And even if they were available elsewhere, I’d never be able to afford the sheer number of KU books I read on an individual basis. I read like ~20 KU books in January alone, 12 so far in Feb 😕
Canceled my Prime membership recently. Must say I'm pissed that they don't give you an option to leave feedback. I was just going to tell Bezos to fuck himself.
😂😂😂😂😂 If you want to get back at him, someone posted under the Rachel Maddow post to boycott Amazon from March 7 to the 14th! It may or may not make any difference, but I for one will be boycotting Amazon from the seventh to the 14th! It’s up to each person!
If you recall, which I don’t know, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg each donated $1 million to Trump‘s inauguration! They wanted to get something in return of course!😡🤢
From the 7-14 we have been asked from someone on Rachel Maddow‘s post, to not buy anything from Amazon! As a way of protesting against Jeff Bezos! So I for one will not buy anything off of Amazon from the seventh to the 14th! I guess you could say it’s a boycott! It is up to each person!
I have a few books on Kindle of which i also have the paperback. Bezos can stuff yhe in the kniwn dark place.
My real issue. I have MDA , the quest2 VR really helps me reading. But i need the quest3 bc of the better lenses.
The altrnatives are fucking expensive. Fuck Bezos.
Good for you! On the Rachel Maddow post someone put on there to boycott Amazon from March 17 to the 14th! I for one will do exactly that! It is up to each person whether or not they wish to boycott! From March 7 to the 14th I won’t buy anything from Amazon!
