A little more about photographing dunes…
I like the nearly infinite visual playground of light and shadow, lines and curves, textures and colors that the dunes provide. There is always something new to find there, whether it is a condition of light and atmosphere or some small thing…
…But the experience of being in dunes may be the biggest thing. They provide perhaps the most accessible experience of being off-trail and off-map, of finding your way with your own wits and going wherever your interest and abilities lead you.
And you will have to apply whatever route-finding…
skills you have, since there is no obvious path forward, and you ‘ll have to find your way over and around various impediments
They are also places of clean lines and silence. The only sound is the wind. (Well, OK, in Death Valley there are those darned planes from nearby military bases.)
Then I always been living off map 😀
