How many people who went through the rigamarole to get a passport would NOT have gone thought the rigamarole to get a RealID, which in most states is just your driver's license?
Me. I’m those people. I’ve been able to renew my driver’s license online. To get Real
ID I needed an appointment at the DMV. I couldn’t square that with child care the times my license was due. I was going to finally do it when I had to renew during the pandemic but want to take the risk.
My current driver’s license hasn’t expired yet, so I’m not willing to do extra admin just to meet this requirement when the documentation I have will suffice. I imagine there are plenty of people who will update as their licenses expire.
No I don’t… I have a passport and Pennsylvania has way too much difficulty with all of my documents… Dad changed our last name after I was born, then I got married, then he died, then I got married again… It’s all so confusing.
I’ve moved to another state, so we will see how it goes here.

If you have Global Entry the card they give you for land border crossings is also accepted per the website
Who knows if the TSA agents actually know their own rules however
BTW a valid passport should automatically give you a Real ID license & not force you to go to DMV
