Councilmember, I say this as a member of your district, any negative externalities concerning Chinatown are miniscule. If displacement were an actual problem then the 25 story apartment tower shouldn't have been scrapped and conversations around developing the many parking lots in Chinatown should

should be on the table. However, the apartment tower was removed at the request of Chinatown residents. It seems not allowing the arena would be a win for Chinatown NIMBYs, who in truth just want to cast their neighborhood in amber and see no development.

Even if the arena is actually not in their neighborhood. Furthermore, the purpose of the project is to revitalize Market East, not solely act as jobs creation for underrepresented communities. That is a secondary benefit, but not the primary goal.

If you can make the Economic Opportunity Plan be more impactful for underrepresented communities then great! However, that shouldn't be a primary concern.

In short, I am normally extremely supportive of what you and Councilmember Landua have to say and do, but I fear heavily that you are letting perfect get in the way of progress.
