Politically damaging? He won't ever run for election again. If he decides to stick around after four years and refuses to step down, where could political damage appear. He isn't a lame duck, he is untethered by the need to be electable any more.

Trump will pardon violence done in his name or against people he doesn't like. That's the precedent. Public protests of Trump will be opposed with basically state approved violence by his goons. He's outlawing opposition. How hard is it for Democrats to get in front of a camera and say that?
