Yeah , heat pumps are still pretty rare in the US. Understandably in places like here and further north where it gets stupid cold. But even in places with less heat demand they still aren't common. I hear that HVAC companies wildly overcharge for them.

But heatpumps have been a thing for decades in Sweden, and it sure gets cold up there. The better ones are expensive mostly due to one-off expenses. Replacing the unit after 15 years costs maybe 5 grand.
Maybe less with a groundbound one.
Including the floor heating plumbing etc, I hope? Mine did not cost nearly as much, despite a lot of work needing done for the pipes and distribution.
Good thing though: that is a one off cost. The topside gear may need replacing, but the thermal loops do not.
