I was sailing there in '80, we were told that it was a great time to buy wooden Danish boats because the king had decreed, post Nelson's action, that oaks had to be planted & they had just come on the market. A prior similar act.

It's also not only about carbon. 2/3s of land in Denmark are cultivated use for farming. Transforming (some of) this for trees decreases nitrogen use and oxygen depletion, strengthens biodiversity, etc.
