because elden ring is a fucking huge game and most people only play it with handful of weapons and skills, miss a bunch of bosses, only encounter some enemies when overleveled, etc

forcing you to do these fights at a faster pace and lower power level with new weapons is enough to make them new IMO

the “you can’t become OP and there’s no synergy” complaints really get me though lmao

at one point i had a build where every time i did a guard counter it would create two massive blasts of holy energy and summon like 5 skeletons. it melted the final boss

the same build had some really strong bleed synergy - seppuku, +20% damage on bleed proc, etc, a build that would easily scale into lategame in base elden ring

the guard counter shit was stronger.

the skeleton summon is also a really good example of recontextualizing an existing asset to great effect, bc the skeletons summoned by guard counter were literally a borrowed effect from tibia’s summons, which is possibly the worst spell in elden ring - made into something fun and powerful

one small complaint is that legendary weapons don't feel very powerful despite their extreme rarity. i only found 2 and survived long enough to use 1 during at least 10 hours of play, and it sucked to the point of being worse than the rare i had in my inventory lmao

I picked up a Godskin Swaddling Cloth talisman that said "+6% health recovered on hit" which I think is literally over a dozen times better than the talisman is in Elden Ring

seeing all the nightreign release buildup has really confirmed what i felt when tears of the kingdom (doing a slightly different thing) came out: devs *should be* reusing the bones of their big-ass open world games like this more often.
