They may come in 2nd, but no one will form a coalition with them, so they won’t be in government. AfD’s support is mainly in the former DDR, where people never went through honest history lessons. The Nazis were in West Germany and East Germans always being ant-Nazi had no need to learn from history

I’d encourage everyone to read up on the history of German politics and how reunification in the 90s still has a huge impact on the political splits. Germany is in some ways uniquely vulnerable to external campaigns that pull to far left or far right. German politics is unlikely to improve.

Alternate headline is that AfD will be effectively locked out of governing. While their support is historic they did at the lower end of expectation. Musk inserted himself personally in this race and it didn't get them one vote. If anything between him and Vance they lost a few.
