Women had the numbers in 2016, and 2024 to keep their rights, but they didn't vote accordingly. The "gender gap" in 2024 wasn't nearly as lopsided as it should have been. Now women stand to lose their reproductive rights, their right to leave abusive marriages, and possibly even their right to vote.
White voters--of the people who voted. But BIPOC are disenfranchised with surgical precision. I'm in ATL & I know 7 people who had to go through hell & high water to vote NOV 5. Most don't try so hard (& we shouldn't have to!); they just don't vote. We would make the difference if we all could vote.
Yes! And reform the antiquated electoral college system! Invite every American to the table equally! But republicans saw they were being outnumbered decades ago, and they designed skillful ways to suppress votes that end up taking years of red tape and legal hoop jumping to dismantle, if at all.
Yes, voter suppression was huge. A significant number of minorities were disenfranchised by Dems but white [males] are the first to be blamed. Obvs, Dems should work on winning minorities back but they weren't the main problem per se. If we ever get to vote again...

Yes, lots of voter suppression going on in red states and swing states. The newest way would be HR22, the SAVE act (save what?) that would require women voters who are married and took their spouse's surname to RE-REGISTER using the birth certificate with their original name. GRRR.
But look at Mississippi voting progress since 2018. They're responding to motivation and increasing voter support for just government. With our expression of interest, they are bending the arc with their own power.

Some people there might still hold it against Doug Jones that he was able to get convictions many years later of the men (now old) who bombed the 16th Street Baptist Church -- back in 1963.
He was running against the most hated man (at one point) in Alabama: Judge Roy Moore. Even republicans couldn’t stomach his antics. How times have changed.
