no the 2ds have a totally different problem where your momentum is brought to a total standstill whenever you fail and the faster you go the more likely you fail so it’s one big negative reinforcement mechanism
i think the idea that these are games specifically designed around going fast was a marketing push, they were able to have long scrolling levels that scrolled very quickly and they wanted to show that sure but it's a platformer first and foremost with a focus on utilizing your momentum appropriately
It’s a game series entirely propped up by character design focused on looking cool to children. There aren’t any compelling 3D sonic games to choose from unless you want to see if the dev team was given enough time to make the running work. They still fuck that up sometimes
in a Kyle Bosman video he jokingly opined on why certain games were selling well:
