I don't disagree that the payroll could/should be higher, but the disparity in local media deals is so wildly dramatic that the shared revenue percentages MLB and its apologists brag about are pretty laughable.
obviously payroll isn't the only expenses but yes, honestly this isn't that different than what the salary caps in other leagues are? aren't they like 50% revenue share between players and owners? so if they have $200 million in shared revenue plus 52% of local revenue 🤷
They vary, not sure about the NFL (52/48 to players?), but the NBA is a 55/45 split to players. And the NFL has a 5-year rolling salary floor that only the Jags and Bengals have ever been in danger of approaching, as far as I know.
