Weiqiang Zhu (Berkeley): Phase picking and association and identifying first motion polarities are perception-based tasks, traditionally undertaken by humans, but now reproducable by deep learning. We have used them to make "deep" earthquake catalogs with more, smaller, events and focal mechanisms.
