"We", meaning Humanity as a collective, never had a say in it. The capitalism & system we were born into was created & set into place by ancient rulers for their own benefit & for the benefit of their descendants. They live in their own separate royal society & rigged everything in their favor.

Stock buybacks seem almost entirely used for a wealth transfer to those already wealthy.

They do not benefit anyone else, or the company itself, in any significant way.

I really think CEO pay should be capped at a fixed percentage of what average hourly workers make. We can argue about what that percentage should be (I like 10x).
Anything beyond that should be taxed at 99%.
