I was interviewed on local radio after being shortlisted for a crime writing prize. They knew I worked at BT Research labs and dropped "they have the most post-graduates of any organisation outside academia".
My response was "Just shows qualifications don't equal intelligence."
I stand by it.
I have finally shared the news that their office door is Internet famous with the colleague in question. They are thanking you kindly for liking and sharing.
In my experience, uni sort for narcism. Item, anyone higher up is likely a person you do not want contact with, as they will take advantage of you. I knew a lot of profs unlike that, but the younger ones increasingly are opportunistic careerists.
Well. As a rule of thumb: everybody in academia thinks of themselves as smart and most probably are given the many review points until getting there. Smart, by the way, doesn’t equal having common sense. 😇
And it does not mean that non-academics aren’t smart, too.
I agree with everyone in academia thinking of themselves as smart but by definition is implies exceptional. “having or showing a high degree of mental ability”.Smart, by the way, does not equal literate, persistent, privileged or patronizing.
