The solution to poverty is to give money to people who need money. Everything else is just inefficiency in order to salve people’s desire to punish poor people for being poor.
As a Poor™️, I can confirm that every food box is always inadequate, SNAP is already barely enough to survive, and the *ONLY* true solution aside from "just die then i guess lol" is money.
Far better to give people jobs than money. It eliminates involuntary unemployment and ensures price stability while doing so https://www.jobguarantee.org
The solution to poverty is no longer caring about who may need it or not and instead just giving some amount of it to everyone as a foundational human right. After that we can just make a point of raising taxes on those who clearly don't need it, about the top 10% or so, but especially the top 1%.
A universal basic income that keeps people out of the poverty range has always seem to me to be the most efficient form of social welfare estate can do. And the knock on effects are countless. But unfortunately, too many in this country are shackled by boot trap mentality.
It's just capitalism. Ever since enclosure, bosses have needed to actively impoverish people to get them into wage labor. All these services drive down costs for consumers and drive up wages for workers
Poverty is a tool of coercion and control. An impoverished and defeated population keeps the rich at the top. The struggle to exist day to day extinguishes the struggle to resist what’s keeping you there. They’ll feed you enough that you’ll thank them; never enough that you’ll look for more.
It's all about taking dignity away from anyone who accepts assistance in any form. They are literally trying to embarrass the poor into just....laying down and passing away, I guess? It's gross and heartbreaking.
And deliveries don't work if you don't have housing. Ffs. I hate (the almost always wealthy) people who think policies like this are good for anything.
They always want to make the system more expensive and less efficient so they can punish the poor for being poor. As a taxpayer, I would like them to stop doing that. "Give people money to buy food" is the only infrastructure we need here.
The solution to poverty is to give everyone a guaranteed basic income AND to ensure the essentials, like food, housing, healthcare, education, etc are accessible & affordable for all. A guaranteed income alone won’t cut it. We need regulation over the price & supply of essential goods & services too
UBI is a transitional solution between the status quo & the disruption AI is going to bring to the world of work. The economic system we created no longer works. We have to eliminate the profit motive so that the essentials are accessible to everyone. Technology will replace capitalism's incentives.
I think a serious problem with the current economic model is that many of our governments have been trying to delegate the supply of essential goods and services to the private market. It’s not working out well. And that would be the case regardless of technology.
The greatest lie they’ve ever gotten away with is that this country can’t afford to help everyone who needs it. Not only can America easily afford it, it’s *cheaper* than mass incarceration for drug crime/homelessness.
In addition to Just Give People Money, let's not forget Just Give People High Quality Public Transit and Just Build Public Housing and Just Nationalize Medication Production (thanks CA insulin plant!) and Just Provide Cheap Clean Energy and Just Give People Healthcare
Brazilian family aid, a wildly successful program started in the 2000s, is conditioned to children being vaccinated and in school and preferentially transferred to the female head of the household, if there is one.
when Bolsonaro got rid of those conditions, every social metric got worse.
of course, there's a big difference between viable conditions designed to incentivize community development and prohibitive conditions designed to degrade poor people and deny aid. policy designers have to actually care.
This is an editorial cartoon of Doug Ford, currently the Premier of Ontario & the most corrupt politician in Canada. Donald Trump, who Doug admires greatly, can teach him nothing where fascism 101 and shambolic greed are concerned.
I worked a town job one summer 35 years ago. Two weeks of it was delivering 10lb blocks of USDA surplus American cheese to people on a food stamps registry. Was Around the same time Reagan declared ketchup a vegetable.
Point is, it’s madness to leave nutrition to the guys.
Recipients or their children may be celiac, lactose intolerant, vegetarian, diabetic, neurodivergent with specific safe foods, or some other restriction.
If you think of them as people instead of "the poors" you see why it's both inefficient and negligent to send a generic box of food to everyone.
The stupid thing about this idea is that it would require $billions in totally new infrastructure & bureaucracy, which cosplay Space Nazi & his far-less-wealthy sidekick Boy Vivek would immediately recommend being cut, while Sporktoes Greene applauds from the sidelines

Food insecurity anywhere in the world has been avoidable for decades, easily so in the US.
There's plenty of housing/manufacturing capacity for more.
Hunger & homelessness are conjured from thin air by evil, greedy people.
2025, when major corporations and pharma companies are gonna be our BFFs. Didn't see that one comin'.
when Bolsonaro got rid of those conditions, every social metric got worse.
but there is a discussion there.
The rich have forgotten what happened the last time we had this level of wealth inequality.
These next couple years are going to be rough. I suspect a revolution in some form is in our future but it's hard to imagine what that will look like.
Point is, it’s madness to leave nutrition to the guys.
Seems simple enough.
