We've understood for some time that the serotonin theory of depression was not as useful as originally thought. I'm sure this will help to educate the public, but those familiar with the literature are unlikely to find anything new in this.

It seems you are arguing that because you and your team dropped the serotonin theory, therefore Dr Moncrieff should. It's telling us to forget about it even though that theory impacted so many lives.

I don't have a team. And I haven't completely dropped the theory. Serotonin is a part of the depression picture, but the neurobiology of depression is more complex than Moncrieff is making out. Her work is also riddled with bias and errors.

She is an expert on psychiatry and runs studies. Every study has flaws, this one is pretty solid. She's only biased in that she recognizes harms of psychiatry without downplaying them.

A large number of experts in the area have identified issues with her 2022 review, and there are problems with her other outputs. She's biased, and it renders her scientifically shortsighted. It's sad to see.

I read the response you posted and nothing suggested her data was faulty. If her bias is an impediment, then so is the bias of other researchers especially the ones funded by pharmaceutical companies.

The book tells the origin story and evolution of the serotonin theory and it is also a story about antidepressants, which have always been intimately connected with speculation about the possible chemical nature of depression.
